Our newest program is biofeedback for the treatment of urinary and bowel incontinence.
Generally, biofeedback has been used to re-educate muscles weakened from injury, surgery or illness. Recently, this same tool is being used to treat women and men suffering from urinary and/or fecal incontinence. The biofeedback protocol is designed to test the strength and endurance of the pelvic floor muscles, so important in controlling incontinence. Once testing has determined the level of weakness, then the biofeedback can be used to re-educate these muscles. It can also help in relaxing those muscles that are contracting at the wrong time and thereby creating more incontinence. There are over 20 million people in the United States that suffer from urinary and/or fecal incontinence. Historically, the treatment has been surgical intervention but in recent years more emphasis has been placed on conservative treatment including biofeedback, pelvic muscle exercise, bladder re-training, and functional electrical stimulation. Mary Jo Chapman, P.T., C.F.P. has worked with incontinence patients for several years noting significant improvements in symptoms and function with this technique. If you, a friend, or family member suffer from this condition, we can be contacted at 281-540-2001. The clinic is open from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Friday and accepts most insurance programs including Medicare/Medicaid/Workers Comp. and private pay patients. We are conveniently located near the Humble Post Office on First Street and offer a wide variety of treatment including general physical therapy, speech therapy and chronic pain management.
